I like the title of the book, because it connects well to the general idea portrayed to its readers. I do not agree with the book burnings because, the title was not meant to be offensive and it was taken from a historical document which was titled
The Book of Negroes. I believe the title covers all aspects of what Aminata, the protagonist was going through and, truly captures the perspective of her life. "Aminata's Expiditions"
could potentially be a suitable title for the book but it's not as strong as the current title used.
I completely agree with your point. Since Hill himself is an African American, I find it even more surprising that people would take offense to the title that he gave his own book. Sometimes using the shock factor is an extremely good way to portray something like slavery. In order to show just how terrible and extreme the conditions were back them, there needs to be some gorey material.
